This urban garden on a tricky sloped site has been designed as a seamless extension of the property’s quirky architecture, with each distinct outdoor space positioned on its own level- an interplay of elevation and perspective evocative of an M.C. Escher drawing.
In material terms, the design celebrates the humble, utilitarian, London stock brick, grounding the garden in the urban context of Peckham, while juxtaposing it with striking contemporary elements such as vertical wooden screening and sawn sandstone. Eye-catching, dramatic, cantilevered stone steps hover over planting and water, creating a sense of weightlessness and movement as one travel up between levels.
The journey through the space is one of concealment and revelation - drawing visitors into moments of exploration and discovery. At its heart, the garden hosts a dynamic entertaining and dining area, balancing bold design with inviting functionality.
