Nightingale Road (in progress)
Sanctuary
This tiny garden in Godalming is undergoing a complete transformation. From completely covered in decking to an abundant, planted oasis that cocoons and envelopes you in greenery.
Still a work in progress, this small space in Godalming is undergoing a complete transformation. Originally entirely decked over and surrounded by high retaining walls and fencing, the ambition is to turn it into a green sanctuary that provides a restorative spot to sit, unwind, and enjoy the delights of nature.
Shifting the colour of the retaining wall from white to black means it appears less imposing and as the plants grow and gain mass eventually the wall will be rendered almost unnoticeable. Likewise the fence, which will be covered in climbers to turn it into a green habitat for wildlife. At ground level the rotting decking has been replaced with planting, including a couple of gorgeous trees - turning what was effectively a barren desert into a tiny ecosystem. The two new trees bring some vertical mass and interest to the space and contribute to the sense of being nestled in a miniature woodland.
A compact garden room serves as an office, giving much needed extra space to the owners.
We can’t wait to see the planting mature and fill out as this space grows into its full potential!
